2011 Silver Leaf Award Winners
The International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Canada has selected the winners of the 2011 Silver Leaf Awards for excellence in business communication. See the complete list of winners.
“This year’s winners represent the best of the best,” said Lynn Barter, ABC, chair of the 2011 Silver Leaf program. “The caliber of the entries we received reflects the high standards and professionalism that IABC is known for worldwide. All those who submitted their work should be proud of their accomplishments and the value they bring to their organizations and clients.”
The Silver Leaf Award entries go through two rigorous rounds of judging by top senior communicators from acrossCanada. For the second consecutive year, the final evaluation was conducted by a Silver Leaf Awards Blue Ribbon Panel, consisting of 10 accredited business communicators who convened inToronto.
Of the 175 entries received from across Canada this year, 36 were selected to receive awards. Of those, 14 were Awards of Excellence and 22 were Awards of Merit.
Winners were honored at the Silver Leaf Gala on November 6 during the Canada West regional conference in Whistler, B.C.
IABC Canada honours 2011 Master Communicator

Anna Marie Willey, ABC
The International Association of Business Communicators Canada (IABC Canada) has announced the 2011 recipient of its prestigious Master Communicator designation. Anna Marie Willey, ABC, Director of Communications and Marketing at University of Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan is Canada’s newest Master Communicator (MC).
“Anna has developed a wide and deep career in professional communications, almost all of it within the public sector in Saskatchewan. She has developed or led teams in many of Saskatchewan’s leading organizations.” says this year’s Master Communicator Selection Committee Chair, Glenna Cross, ABC, MC. “At the same time, Anna has been a long-time champion of IABC, accreditation and learning within our profession. She has mentored many young communicators and contributed to the quality of life in her home community of Regina through extensive volunteer roles.” Read more…

Salary Survey results show IABC members and ABCs earn more!
IABC/Canada is pleased to release the results of the 2009 IABC/Canada Salary Survey of communication professionals. The survey, conducted by Leger Marketing for IABC/Canada West, IABC/Canada East and IABC/Toronto between December 2009 and February 2010, asked professional communicators key questions about income, benefits, employment and job satisfaction in today’s economy.
“We are thrilled to see the high level of job satisfaction among communication professionals in Canada and the tangible value of IABC membership and accreditation,” said Felicia Shiu, ABC, APR, the lead volunteer on the project and past president of IABC/Toronto. “For years we’ve believed in the value of IABC membership and professional accreditation; now we have the stats to fully appreciate it. In Canada, IABC members earn 15% more, on average, than non-members, and accredited professionals earn 21% more, on average, than non-accredited communicators.”
