Always committed to achieving a high standard of communications practice, she has won 17 awards from professional societies since 2001.

In Ken Cherney’s nomination to Master Communicator,
a colleague wrote: “As a mentor, Ken always took time
out of his busy day to talk through issues, provide sound
counsel, and share insights based on his wealth of corporate
communications experience.“
Ken Cherney began his career as a reporter-photographer
in Southern Ontario in the early 1970s, then entered the
public sector in Manitoba before moving on to spend more
than 20 years with Inco Limited, the international mining
and metals company. Today Ken owns and operates his own
communications consultancy, Ken Cherney and Associates Inc.
in Toronto. He has more than 30 years domestic and international
experience in communication strategy and project management.
Ken has been a tireless contributor to IABC. His history
of volunteerism in communications predates IABC in Canada.
In 1972 while attending his first meeting with the Winnipeg
Chapter of Corporate Communicators Canada, he found himself
recruited for a chapter executive position.
Since then he has held chapter executive positions in Winnipeg
and Toronto and on the Canadian District Boards. Accredited
since 1975, he was an active member for two terms on IABC’s
International Accreditation Board and Council and has proctored
countless accreditation exams in North America and Europe.

Rick Green, ABC became an entrepreneur in 1983, starting
out alone after nine years at the Canada Safety Council.
He evolved his practice from a sole proprietorship into
a partnership, Staigh Green & Associates. Staigh Green
ultimately grew to be a 10-person firm, with a strong focus
on providing expert communications counsel and execution
for associations, government and corporate clients.
Rick was one of the founders of IABC Capitale AIPC, and
served as President in 1977 and again in 1985. He initiated
IABC's chapter leader training sessions, Leadership Development
Weekend, which was reportedly the model for CLI. Rick served
eight years on the District Board, four years on the international
board, and about 12 years working for his chapter in a formal
capacity.
Between formal roles, Rick was always on-hand to help Boards
of Directors. In 1996, he and his company jointly organized
with IABC Capitale a full-day conference on internal communications,
aimed at government communicators. In 2000, Rick stepped
in after recovering from a first round of cancer treatment
to help the Capitale Board find appropriate recipients for
its annual Presidents' and Distinguished Service awards.
Accredited since 1978, Rick until very recently served on
the IABC International Accreditation Board. In 2000-2001,
Rick once again stepped in to fill a vacuum in his home
chapter, and agreed to another 3-year commitment to the
members as president-elect, a post he sadly had to vacate
in December. In addition, he kick-started the accreditation
push in the chapter after promotion of accreditation had
been dormant for a few years.
