Silver Leaf Awards entries are evaluated by two sets of judges. First-tier judges from Canadian IABC chapters evaluate all entries using standardized criteria. Entries that score 5.0 and above on a scale of 7 are then evaluated by a panel of Blue Ribbon judges, who are leaders in the profession.
Each entry is evaluated on a 7-point scale against standardized criteria. An entry scored at 5.5 or above by the Blue Ribbon panel receives a Silver Leaf Award of Excellence. A score between 5.0 and 5.4 qualifies for an Award of Merit. There is no limit on the number of awards granted in any category.
For communication management entries, reflecting a full range of planning and management skills, the work plan and work sample are each worth 50 per cent of the score.
For communication skills entries, the work plan is worth 40 per cent and the work sample is worth 60 per cent.
For communication creative entries, the work plan is worth 25 per cent and the work sample is worth 75 per cent.
